Why gretchen jones won
Still, the striking designer from Portland, Oregon, takes responsibility for what did make it on air. My tastes aren't for everybody—that's what fashion is. Yet for many, such rationale does nothing to lessen the sting of Jones' triumph over crowd favorite Mondo Guerra.
Both designers presented strong finale collections—strong enough to split the judges straight down the middle. Mondo is a genius and very compelling, but I think my work spoke for itself. What was up with her throwing you under the bus? Yeah, that totally shocked me. I feel like I got attacked in a way that was not really about me.
It was just ridiculous. Like I said, the crazy thing is how much airtime I got. We all said things that could have been used in a certain light. With all that airtime, it just made people talk about me more, and it will make people remember me more in a few years. Perhaps the most uncomfortable moment of the season was when Tim Gunn yelled at all the designers for letting you manipulate them during the group challenge. Did you make peace with him afterwards? I felt like his comments were really out of context.
All he gets to experience is the runway. I think of myself as a community supporter. I had just come off two wins and coming in second during the third challenge.
As for "Project Runway" helping define Portland as a fashion hotbed, Henderson says he's noticed an impact of local designers' winning, especially after he followed in Marshall's footsteps. When I'm in New York, I notice everybody having a different view of our area.
Jones says she hopes to be living in New York by early Note to readers: if you purchase something through one of our affiliate links we may earn a commission.

Subscribe to OregonLive. Vancouver's Seth Aaron Henderson's victory last season. I agree. This was the most terrible finale to date! Gretchen had no business winning.
Her clothes were not fashionable or forward in anyway. Mondo presented a collection that was beautiful and innovative. How did the judges praise Mondo for his brilliance all season but turn on him? When she tried, she failed terribly. How did Mondo win that many challenges only to have the final win stolen? The fact that Michael C. Anyone other than Mondo winning is a joke, much less the revolting clothes of Gretchen.
I will pay many dollars for that awesome polka dot dress. I would happily wear ANY of this clothes!! He was the clear winner. And I was especially disappointed in Nina Garcia. I was literally yelling at the television scene! That should say it all! I was so sad to see Mondo not take the prize. He deserved it because of his amazing designs. That — above his background, growth, etc — is why he should have won. They looked like something my mother would wear…if she could find them on sale at a second hand store.
Mondo was the clear winner is right! This is supposed to be about the runway show NOT the judges hope to turn out a designer who they think will have a name in the future. WHAT a B. S reason for the wrong person to WIN a fashion show! Mondo will be creating long after Gretchen and he will have a finger on the newest fashions to come.
Fashion over commercial or commercial over fashion? Mondo was robbed. Hey I support that idea, of donating 1 dollar to Mondo. This was a robbery! This is just sad. I cried in this episode. October 30, at pm. Mondo has class and talent. That is somehow the future of fashion? Mondo — you have a true fan and supporter in me. I have never seen such a travesty of justice as what occured on Project Runway tonight.
You are inspired, amazing, a true genius in the fashion world…YOU are a winner in every way — as a designer, as a son and brother, as a man.
I am so proud of you and I know a lot of people who feel the same way!!! I soooo agree with everyone about this horriable turn of events for poor Mondo, Andy and Michael C!. I think their judgement on whats the next best trend in fashion are clearly a joke. Gretchen clothes looked boring, poorly constructed, lacked beauty and creativity.
I think PR made a grave mistake and will lose viewership. Tim Gunn he is the truth! Mondo was Robbed. Dislike this outcome? Dislike Gretchen even more? Please Like this page on Facebook! Kors and Garcia are in fashion silos and out of touch with the general public.
Gretchen had a couple of intersting pieces, to be fair, but her overall message was boring. I would never, ever buy her clothes. His inspiration was true of his Mexican heritage, but I guess Kors and Garcia only see the mainstream white bread world. They always pick the white person. I would like to see Nina wearing those granny panties with the open jacket and the hat, along the streets of NYC.
Or anyone else for that matter. Nothing about Gretchen or her clothing brought any joy to the runway. All I see with Gretchen is the bitterness that was portrayed on the show. PR has really done Gretchen a huge disservice with the manner that they have portrayed her.
Mondo was Robbed!!!! My daughters would never wear a diaper or be caught wearing anything from her line. What happen too using some color in you line? Mondo was the winner and we as viewers were robbed.
It goes to show that all reality shows are fixed. All of them!!! Too late? Mondo and Andy have already stormed the walls of the castle! Has anyone realized that the argument Nina and Michael used to tear down Mondo and praise Gretchen are the same ones they used to praise Seth Aaron and denounce Emilio last year?
This is ridiculous!! They cannot tear down a commercial collection one year Emilio and then praise a less interesting, more commercially-designed collection the next year. The judges love to go back and forth each season. Then edgy Jeffrey won over Uli and Laura. Creative Christian won over Rami and Jillian. Then they went back to safe and commercial with Leanne over Korto and Kenley. I think they must trade off each season. Sometimes Nina wins, sometimes Heidi wins.
Okay, so when the designers get critiqued at the end, they have their best design next to them? On what red carpet will you see someone walking in that outfit? October 30, at am. I have no idea what Garcia and Kors were thinking. I hated every outfit Gretchen ever made and would not buy a single piece.
Mondo was totally robbed! The first year that I even watched Project Runway. Bored I suppose — I even watched Hair Battle which was a rigged show as well. Even I will donate a dollar to Mondo. In fact, most of the designers on the show only had black.
At least Mondo knew how to put a dash of color and pattern in his blacks. Another comment. They dismissed his way too quickly. I think Jessica Simpson was leaning toward Andy, but caved in quickly when the other three tossed it out too quickly. Jessica you needed to speak up more and not be intimated by those judges.
I think Heidi would have backed Jessica up if she spoke up. I especially like the skull T-shirt and leggings. Even though I supposed I would look ridiculous in it — I would love to wear them. As for Gretchen, I agree with you — I would look like a slob in her clothes — do oversized women people always have to buy baggy clothes? Mondo was robbed, but his clothes have almost sold out on the Project Runway website. The only one left is the first look.
Andy has three looks that have sold out, the first two, and the green dress. Sorry Nina and Michael, but you were wrong, wrong, wrong. You need to resign. Nobody wants to wear drab brown clothes or diapers.
Are you really going to try to foist this look on American women? No thanks! I am stunned. Ho hum passing as innovative chic. I feel so sorry for Mondo. Time for a changing of the guards, I feel. Top Posts — WordPress. November 1, at pm. Mondo was the clear winner from the very beginning!
The very beginning I was rooting for him! But, they have the final say, not me. Some of the things I saw on the show, I thought were hidious, and loved them! But fashion is fickle. November 3, at am.
